Aerofil Technology, Inc. (ATI) recently achieved a major safety milestone, “Two million hours of labor without a lost-time accident.”
On July 29, the employees gathered in the front of the plant where Liberty Mutual representatives presented the Plant Safety Committee with a plaque commemorating this achievement. Very few companies achieve this milestone.
Aerofil also continues to make progress in reducing the overall recordable rate. The recordable rate is computed based on injuries and man hours worked.
The industry standard for recordable rates for similar companies such as Aerofil is 3.0. In 2007, Aerofil’s recordable rate was .57, which is considerably lower than the industry average, and progress continues into 2008.
Aerofil’s philosophy that “Safety is Everyone’s Responsibility,” in conjunction with the DuPont STOP Program, PIT (Partners in Teamwork) program, and Lean manufacturing implementation are all key factors in reaching this milestone. Employee participation is imperative to its success.
The Plant Safety Committee commended each individual for their dedication to preventing unsafe acts and unsafe conditions.
One employee remarked how pleased they were with Aerofil’s programs to make the plant safe every day, “Safety is first and they really get it!”
Aerofil opened its doors in 1988 with a handful of employees. Their roster now tops 500 and is considered one of the largest employers in the Sullivan area.
In addition to the safety achievements, Aerofil Technology, Inc. will be celebrating its 20-year anniversary on Aug. 12.
