Man Assaulted After Checking On House

A Franklin County man was assaulted by an individual using an ax handle on Sun., July 27 after he was checking on a resident’s home.
According to Franklin County Sheriff Gary Toelke, deputies responded to a residence on Highway WW in reference to an assault. Deputies arrived and learned that the victim, Rocky Oliver, 58, St. Clair, had been requested to watch a friend’s building. While checking the building for the friend, the victim stated that he was confronted by a subject staying at a residence that was also on the property where the building was located. This residence was occupied by a co-owner of the property.
According to Oliver, the subject was angry that he was on the property. Oliver stated that the subject struck him in the head with an ax handle. Oliver was transported to St. John’s Mercy Hospital, Washington, for treatment. His injuries did not appear life-threatening.
Following the assault, the victim stated that the suspect took a camera belonging to him that he was taking photos of the building with. The camera was recovered in the weeds near where the assault took place along with the weapon.
The suspect was taken into custody for assault in the first degree and robbery at a nearby residence. He is a white male, 36, from St. Clair. His name is being withheld pending the issuance of warrants.
