A local coalition is planning the fifth Women’s Financial Education Series, a program designed by University of Missouri Extension. The coalition includes Carol Maune, Carolyn Martinez, Barb Delleart, Diane Holdmeyer, Donna Engelhart, and Colleen Simons.
“Women are often vulnerable when it comes to their financial future,” said Sandra McKinnon, extension financial education specialist. “Women tend to live longer than men, are more conservative in their investments and are in and out of the workforce.”
“This program is designed for women to improve their money management skills and level of financial knowledge. Participants develop confidence in decision making and gain control of their finances,” explained McKinnon.
The program is strictly educational and covers the topics of budgeting, recordkeeping, insurance, estate planning, banking, credit, debt management, and preparing for retirement.
The series will be offered on Thursday evenings in October. Registration deadline is Sept. 25. Workshops will be held at the Franklin County Government Building in Union. Instructors include McKinnon, and local professionals and experts.
“To keep the cost low the coalition is seeking support from a number of local sponsors” said McKinnon.
A limited number of scholarships are expected to be available.
