The annual State Beta Convention was held in Branson on Fri., Mar. 14 and Sat., Mar. 15. Terri Rowden and Trish Lewis took 75 Betas to the convention and had a wonderful time.
The Betas raise money throughout the year to support this trip and have great support from parents and various businesses in the community. For one weekend, 75 kids were all united and worked together to support one another.
During the second session, Bourbon received the award for the highest number of members in attendance. The club also placed third in the scrapbook and third in the math competition (Jeremy Rosemann). Allie Warmack was awarded one of 13 Beta scholarships.
In addition to this, Emali Kimker ran a campaign for state Beta secretary. Although she did not win, she was poised and perfect in the delivery of her speech.
Abbie Rakes was selected as one of eight special talent performances. Her alto saxophone solo of “Somewhere over the Rainbow” was amazing.
Trish Lewis is the State Beta Club Sponsor Elect. She shadows the current State Sponsor until her time to serve begins.
The State Sponsor is responsible for the state convention for two years. The selection of Sponsor Elect is chosen from all the schools in Missouri that have a Beta Club and it is an honor to be selected.
Bourbon is fortunate to be represented at this level of the Beta Club. The Betas were extremely supportive of their members and Lewis.
Many of the Beta members helped to assist students from the Missouri School for the Blind. The members escorted these students to competitions and socialized with them as well. It truly was a rewarding weekend for sponsors and members alike.
This was a very positive event for the school. Other Beta Clubs complimented the club sponsors on their supportive club members and administration. It was evident through this experience that the Beta kids are proud of their school and proud to be from Bourbon.
The memories that they made from the Beta trips are priceless. These are the times that they will remember in years to come.
The Beta Club is eligible for National Convention again this year, which will be held in Myrtle Beach, SC.
In the past five years, the Beta Club has attended Nationals four times. The club has taken students to Nashville (twice), Greensboro and New Orleans.
It is a wonderful experience to be able to show the students different parts of the country. The club has already started fundraising for the trip. For those who would like to make a donation to this club, please contact the sponsors Lewis or Rowden.
