Going into district competition, the Sullivan Lady Eagles volleyball team knew that they faced a tough road. Seeded fourth, they would start out by facing fifth-seeded Salem. The winner would be charged with the task of trying to upset the perennial power, St. Francis Borgia.
In the opening contest against Salem, the Eagles took care of business in two straight games, winning 25-14 and 25-22. Alana Weiland and Alex Witt both led the Eagles, scoring nine points each. Weiland had nine attacks and two kills while Witt had three aces, 14 attacks, two kills and three blocks.
Jarren Blankenship added six points (20 attacks, three kills, one block) and Rachel Tolliver scored five points (15 attacks, five kills). Although not scoring any points, Carissa Richardson had 14 attacks, eight kills and four blocks in the Sullivan victory.
Moving into the district semifinal contest against Borgia, things started out well for Sullivan. Controlling most of the first game, the momentum shifted late and Borgia took the contest, 25-23. Sullivan never recovered and Borgia finished things off with a 25-10 second game victory.
Rachel Tolliver scored four points on 22 attacks and three kills. Alex Witt and Brittany Moody each had three points.
Sullivan fmished the season third in the FRC with 5-2 record and an overall record of 14-14-3.
