Girls 12 And Under Softball
Talk to Sullivan softball head coach, Ashley Head, and you’ll quickly find out that she is serious about building and maintaining a top level high school program. She believes that it starts at a young age by developing both a love for the game and the skills necessary to compete.
Head, along with assistant coaches Becky Thurmond and Heidi Blankenship, are forming a 12 and under traveling team for the 2009 spring and summer season.
Tryouts for the team will be held on Sat., Nov. 8 from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. in the high school annex gymnasium. Any girl who has “not” turned 13 before Jan. 1, 2009 is eligible to play.
The coaches will be working with players on the basic softball skills of hitting, throwing and catching. A maximum of 13 girls will be selected for the team.
The team plans to play in the Washington softball league that plays from the beginning of April through the end of June. They will also be looking to play in three or four tournaments that would be played on weekends during those same months. Practices will begin in early March.
There will be a fee for players who are selected for the team. This will help offset the cost of leagues, tournaments, uniforms, umpires and other items which the team will need. The coaching staff will be prepared to discuss these costs with players and parents at the end of the tryout.
