Sullivan Man Arrested In Meth Lab Accident
A Sullivan man is facing a barrage of charges following a motor vehicle accident in which he was in possession of a methamphetamine lab in the vehicle and assault on a law enforcement officer.
Sullivan Police Chief George R. Counts reported that officers were called to 800 Louisiana St. at 9:05 a.m. on Thursday morning for a motor vehicle accident.
Authorities arrived on the scene and determined that the driver, identified as Jeremy Saling, 31, Sullivan, had fled the scene of the accident. Saling had struck a parked vehicle on Louisiana St.
Officers began investigating the accident scene when they located containers of chemicals and equipment used in the manufacture of methamphetamine inside the vehicle.
A passenger in the vehicle, who remained at the accident scene, was treated by Missouri Baptist Ambulance personnel for chemical fume inhalation.
Authorities searched for Saling around the accident scene and were unable to locate the suspect.
Moments following the accident, Sullivan police learned that Saling was wanted on a Crawford County warrant for possession of a controlled substance, with bond set at $10,000 cash only.
At 3 p.m., officers learned that Saling was in the location of Cash St. and, following an investigation, they located Saling and a brief foot pursuit began with Saling being taken into custody.
Saling will face additional charges in Sullivan that are expected to include leaving the scene of an accident, possession of chemicals with intent to manufacture, property damage, resisting arrest by fleeing, and assault on a law enforcement officer.
He remained at the Sullivan city jail at press time.
The methamphetamine lab components were secured and neutralized by the Franklin County Narcotics Enforcement Unit.
