Two people were fatally injured in a two-vehicle accident on Highway 47, just north of Route FF, on Friday at 6:35 a.m.
According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, the accident occurred when Matthew Darby, 25, Bonne Terre, operating a northbound 1994 Ford F-250, partially ran off the right side of the roadway. The vehicle then came back onto the roadway and into the southbound lane where it struck head-on a southbound 2004 Mack truck driven by William Akers, 32, Cadet.
Darby and a passenger, Jacob Darby, 23, DeSoto, both not wearing seat belts, were dead at the scene.
Akers, wearing a seat belt, received moderate injuries and was transported by St. Clair Ambulance to St. John’s Mercy Hospital, Washington, for treatment.
The patrol reported total damage to both vehicles.
