With Crawford County being on the list of 70 counties statewide approved for Expedited Federal Disaster Assistance due to flooding, Bourbon and Leasburg did not go without being inflicted.
The Crawford County R-I bus routes were altered due to impassable waters especially on Hwy. N near Campbell Bridge. Hwy. N was shut down because the Meramec River caused the roadway to be covered for approximately a mile and half.
MoDOT crews worked on repaving a portion of the highway one mile south of Bourbon on Thursday, which was washed out the day before. This caused some congestion on the roadway. Many residents drove out to the Campbell Bridge area to see Mother Nature’s wrath firsthand.
Outside of Leasburg, at Onondaga State Park, the outcome was similar. The water rose up to the cave access submerging portions of the Ozark Outdoors Resort. Other area campgrounds affected by the floods were Blue Springs Ranch and Riverview Ranch. The amount of damage and time to rebuild is still undetermined.
Even with all this, Bourbon Emergency Management Director Bob Hutson stated that no calls for aid were reported to either Bourbon City Hall or the police department. Hutson explained that he was surprised by this.
As of press time, it was still inconclusive as to the exact amount of damage caused by the floods as well as the cost to rebuild roadways, houses and businesses.
