The Meramec Dining Lodge/Catering reunion held on Mar. 1 in honor of the Averi Budde Nursing Scholarship Fund for St. Louis Children’s Hospital was a huge success raising over $10,000 that night. It was a sentimental evening for the family of Vicki and J.R. Isom and their daughter, Staci, and her husband, Ryan, with their twin daughters, Adison and Averi. Averi has endured two open heart surgeries since her birth on May 25.
The idea started with a few of their past employees, Theresa Chlipala McKinney, Stacy (Schmidt) Counts and Rachele (Pondrom) Steinkiste, thinking it would be fun to get-together for the “old” seafood night that was so popular when the Isom’s were at Meramec Dining Lodge.
They talked about how many of the people the Isoms had employed through high school, college, after college, weddings, after weddings, babies, after babies and started e-mailing past employees and a wonderful night was born.
The crowd of over 300 enjoyed the wonderful seafood and crablegs with all the seafood being donated by Kim Sidell of Moorey Foods of St. Louis and friends. Other food donations were made by DuKum Inn restaurant, Hen House restaurant, catering and services of Catering, Etc., Ruth Ann Lambing and staff. The Eagles donated the use of their hall.
Everyone enjoyed the appearance of the guest of honor, little Miss Averi, as she waved to the crowd from the stage when she was being introduced as grandma Vicki thanked the guests and explained Averi’s journey with Children’s Hospital and how their donations are helping support the nurses that are taking care of our babies.
She then introduced six nurses from the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit that were there and took care of Averi after her heart surgeries and her little friend, Jackson, who had a heart transplant last Father’s Day.
A beautiful film was then shown of Averi’s journey and the night continued with the wonderful staff and guests enjoying a dance with music provided by Hysteria Sound.
